Former child star Renfro found dead

US actor Brad Renfro has been found dead in his home on wednesday 18-01-08. He was 25.
Renfro, who won acclaim for his childhood role in The Client, had struggled with drugs and alcohol for several years.
The
cause of death was not immediately determined, but a post-mortem
examination could be conducted on Wednesday, chief investigator for the
Los Angeles County coroner’s office Craig Harvey said.
Renfro reportedly had been drinking with friends the evening before his death, Mr Harvey said.
Renfro’s lawyer, Richard Kaplan, said he did not know whether the death was connected to any problems with addiction.
“He was working hard on his sobriety,” Mr Kaplan said. “He was doing well. He was a nice person.”
Renfro’s
film career began when he was 12, acting opposite Susan Sarandon and
Tommy Lee Jones in The Client. His other credits included Sleepers,
Deuces Wild, Apt Pupil and The Jacket. Renfro recently completed a role
in The Informers, a film adaptation of a Bret Easton Ellis novel that
stars Winona Ryder, Brandon Routh and Billy Bob Thornton.
For
several years, Renfro was better known for his legal troubles than for
his acting. The actor served 10 days in jail in May 2006 after pleading
no contest to driving while intoxicated and guilty to attempted
possession of heroin.
The latter charge was related to his arrest
in Los Angeles’ Skid Row area, when he tried to buy heroin from an
undercover officer in 2005.
Other run-ins with the law included a
1998 charge of cocaine and marijuana possession, for which he avoided
jail time in a plea deal. He was also placed on probation in January
2001 and ordered to pay 4,000 dollars for repairs to a 45-foot
(13.7-metre) yacht he and a friend tried to steal in Florida. He was
ordered into an alcohol rehabilitation programme in March 2002 for
violating his probation in the case.

American Idol Philadelphia Auditions Feature Plenty Of Actressing

American Idol, the biggest show on television, returned
for its seventh season with auditions from the city of Philadelphia.
Just like is customary with this stage of the auditions, the bad
singers took the spotlight over the good singers. After seven seasons,
it’s obvious that people have figured out that they don’t have to be a
good singer for Idol to make them famous.

There was somewhat of a Star Wars theme to the episode,
as two contestants showed up dressed up like Princess Leia. Only one
of them was female. Twenty-seven year old Ben Haar from Newark,
Delaware wore a Princess Leia slave girl costume, but before he got a
chance to sing, Paula Abdul said she found his chest hair distracting.
Eager to do anything to extend his TV time, Ben volunteered to wax his
chest hair and come back. A freshly waxed Ben barely got one line out
of his song, before the judges thanked him and sent him on his way.

The second Star Wars fan to take on Princess Leia was
twenty-four year old Christina Tolisano from Enfield, Connecticut.
While she pulled off the costume considerable better than Ben, she met
with a similar fate with the judges. Christina didn’t take her
rejection as well as Ben and ranted over how the judges had passed over
her because she came across as too much of a dork.

However, the strongest piece of “actressing” came from
twenty-three year old Alexis Cohen from Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Alexis sang Grace Slick’s “Somebody To Love.” Simon Cowell said her
performance was possessed, and even though Randy Jackson recommended
Alexis sing in a cover band, all of the judges passed on sending her to
the next round. After Alexis left, Simon Cowell compared her look to
Willam DaFoe, who played the Green Goblin in Spiderman.

Even though Alexis was initially polite to the judges,
she went off on Simon Cowell after leaving. Alexis’ rant included such
memorable lines as “Well, Simon didn’t like me, but he’s a big, fat,
bad word,” “I thank you, I will leave with my dignity,” “I’m going for
actressing,” and “If I could legally moon you, I would.”

Other contestants that got their TV time, but will not
be going to Hollywood included twenty-five year old Alaa Youakeem,
twenty-two year old James Lewis, twenty-two year old Nick Stano,
sixteen year old Sybill White, twenty year old Zhengzong Yu, sixteen
year old Temptress Browne, eighteen year old Mark Hayes, twenty-eight
year old Udgeet “Udi” Sampat, twenty year old Elyse Wojciechowski,
twenty-two year old Teresa Anella, twenty-eight year old Brandi Park,
thirty-nine year old Milo Turk, nineteen year old Pedro Rivera,
twenty-nine year old Shekhinah Bathyehudah, and thirty-two year old
Paul Marturano.

Of course, there were a couple good auditions mixed in
among all the bad auditions. Twenty year old Chris Watson from Dover,
Delaware stood out as having one of the best and most unique voices.
Nineteen year old Joey Catalano also had a great voice and a great
story to go with it. Joey Catalano had recently lost over two-hundred
pounds. The most heart-warming story came from Angela Martin, who has
a daughter with Rett Syndrome. Twenty-six year old Angela said “It’s
not about fame for me. It’s about getting her the best care, the best
therapist, because the doctors told me my baby was never going to walk
or talk, and I’m going to get that for her.”

Also joining Chris, Joey, and Angela in Hollywood were
twenty-six year old Melanie Nyema from Los Angeles, California;
twenty-five year old Junot Joyner from Bowie, Maryland; twenty-three
year old Jose Candlaria from Bayonne, New Jersey; seventeen year old
Jonathan Baines from Smyrna, Delaware; twenty-three year old Kristy Lee
Cook from Selma, Oregon; twenty-eight year old Beth Stalker from Grand
Blanc, Michigan; and twenty-four year old Brooke White from Van Nuys,
California.

2008 Detroit Auto Show

Carmakers from around the world will converge on Detroit this week for
the annual North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) to exhibit
their newest products. On display will be everything from production
vehicles that can be purchased today to concepts that won’t be on the
showroom floor for years to come. Most of this year’s exhibitors have
at least one thing in common, they will be debuting and displaying the
newest developments in clean, green vehicles.
“Already the trends are
showing that there will be a great emphasis this year on fuel-efficient
vehicles, as well alternative technologies in powertrain. We also are
expecting greater trends toward lighter vehicles that emphasize the
role of design in maximizing space,” said Joe Serra, NAIAS 2008 co-chairman.
Manufacturers
bringing their newest clean products to this year’s show include Dodge,
Chevrolet, Toyota, Cadillac, Chrysler, Honda, Saturn, Jeep and Mazda.
And, according to Michelle Krebs, editor of AutoObserver.com, this year’s show boasts the largest number of new green vehicles she has seen at one show.
“I
would say that this year’s Detroit Auto Show has more green than any
auto show I’ve ever seen and every shade of it,” Krebs said. “The tide
has turned and there’s no turning back. This is a reality of life now.”
The technologies that individual companies will be showing run the gamut. Dodge will be showing its ZEO Concept, a four-passenger 2+2 sport wagon with
an electric-only propulsion system and a lithium-ion battery pack
providing a predicted range of 250 miles. Toyota will exhibit its A-Bat Hybrid Truck Concept. Cadillac will show its new Hybrid Escalade with GM’s new dual-mode hybrid system, promising a 50-percent increase in fuel economy. Chrysler will debut its ecoVoyager, an electric vehicle powered by an advanced
lithium-ion battery pack along with a small advanced hydrogen fuel cell
and its new Aspen Hybrid.
Honda is bringing its new CR-Z Gas/Electric Hybrid to the show which features the same engine as the company’s hybrid civic. Saturn will show the new Vue Green Line 2-mode Hybrid and the Vue Flextreme, a plug in hybrid. Mazda will be showing a new Hydrogen Hybrid. Jeep is showing its new Renegade Concept, a gas/electric hybrid. Ford will premier its new EcoBoost new engine which promises 20% better fuel economy. And Chevrolet will unveil the company’s new Volt model, a zero-carbon emitting electric compact car with a range of about 30 miles.
In addition to all of the new vehicles at the show, General Motors has also announced an agreement with Coskata, Inc. to commercialize its process for turning biomass into ethanol.

Glen Rice arrested on Battery charge

Glen Rice got arrested for battery charges on Friday .According to police sources when Glen Rice went to the home of estranged wife Christina Rice he punched Alberto Perez, who he found was hiding in her closet, several times. Perez fled the home and called police. Glen, a six feet 8 inch figure, punched Perez on his forehead so severely that he received a cut to that needed nine stitches, police said.

Glen was later released on bail of $50000 after he surrendered himself to the police.

Rice who is a former Heat star, was selected in the first round of the 1989 draft out of Michigan, where he won an NCAA championship and is the school’s all-time leading scorer.

The 40-year-old Rice played six seasons with the Heat and 15 overall, averaging 18.3 points. Along with the Heat, he played with the Charlotte Hornets, the New York Knicks, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Houston Rockets and the Los Angeles Clippers, retiring after the 2003-04 season.

Rice won an NBA championship with the 2000 Lakers and was the MVP of the 1997 all-star Game.

New Team on F1 Circuit- Force One

Mr.Vijay Mallya, Chief of Kingfisher airlines revealed the names of the drivers selected for his co-owned Formula one team, Force India. This happens to the first formula one team in India. Mr Mallya bought into the spykar Team and renamed it. On Thursday he announced Italian Giancarlo Fisichella and German Adrian Sutil as the drivers for the new season.

Speaking on the Occasion Mallya said

“I do not for a minute underestimate the challenges before me and my team,”
“I have said that we will not produce any miracles in 2008, but we will certainly demonstrate to the world that Force India is going firmly in the right direction up the grid.”

“My objective is by 2010, when India will host their first-ever F-1 grand prix, that Force India Formula One team will rightfully occupy a place in the podium. That doesn’t mean we can’t get to the podium earlier,” he added.

The forecomming season will a challenge for the new team, said Mallya nnouncing the budget for the season as $120 million, an increase of $50 million from last year.

The 18-race season in 2008 starts with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, Australia from March 14 to March 16.
